What happens to recycled items

Aluminum is baled and shipped to California. From there it is sent to a Midwest manufacturer of new cans.

Plastic bottles (PET) are sent to China where they are used to make carpet. They can also be used for many things including sleeping bag filler. It takes only 36 two liter bottles to fill one sleeping bag.

Glass is shipped to Oakland where it is sorted by color and melted down to make new bottles and jars.

Cardboard is made into things like egg cartons or more cardboard.

HDPE plastic (#2) is used to make plastic lumber.

Everything Helps

Every time you decide to recycle and divert something from the landfill, you make a difference. You help to improve the place you live.

Most importantly,
recycled items do not go into the landfill!
